Test Tomorrow/Project due Wed.

You have your test tomorrow.  Make sure to practice problems.  

Also, your pattern block algebra project is due on Wed.  (I have put this on my website if you need to get to quickly)

Make sure to get an early start on this.  If you wait to the last minute you will not get it done in time.  Start on it this weekend so things do not pile up!

Tonight continue to study for your test on Friday!  Besides looking at the fudge factory homework, page 55 has some problems to practice that are helpful.  Try to sketch some of these problems with base 10 blocks and think about how you could solve  a problem with base 10 blocks.

Mr. Shobar made an error!!!!!

I made a mistake on my blog dated  October 27!  On one of my examples there is a mistake.  You can earn a bonus point if you find it.  Just write down what my mistake was and the correct answer on a piece of paper.  Hand that paper to me by Thurs. morning.  Do not tell anyone the mistake because that would be cheating.

Please spend 5 to 10 minutes working finishing up your classwork and preparing to share out tomorrow morning.   Also, please spend at least 20 minutes studying for your test.  You can refer to my study guide which is on Oct. 27th blog.  When studying page 46-47 are good pages, as well as, page 50 and 51.  Good Luck.  Remember, if you have questions write them down and come ask me!

Math Test next Friday: Place Value and Decimals

We have a test this Friday.  How to Study:  Go over all homework and practice some problems again.  The homework that was from your math book go over.  Also, go over all the other problems on those pages.  

Concepts Covered on Test:

Know how to record an order of fudge when someone comes into the fudge shop.

Example:  12 cubes, 11 longs.  Write the decimal.  (practice making trades)

Know how to rounds decimals.  (when the 10 cutter broke down)

Know where each place value is in a decimal.

Know how to put a decimal in expanded form.  Example:     .12         .1 +.01

Know how to add and subtract decimals.  Be able to show it with base 10 blocks.

Know how to order decimals  Example:   Which is bigger and why?   .8      .123             .98

Know how to find a decimal in between a decimal.  Find a decimal in between  .1 and .2

Know how to use the place value chart that you made in your math note book.  What happens to place value when you move right to left?  How many 100's and a million?

Please do page 49 number 29 through 37.  Remember to think about the fudge factory model.

Please do  page  52 #36-41.  Choose two problems from these. You need to choose one subtraction and one addition problem.  For each problem create a story, an equation and a picture.

Please do page 52 numbers 38 and 40.  For each problem, draw a base 10 block picture, write an equation, and give an explanation.

Also, please do page 46 problems 2 through 5.  You do not need a picture for this, but may include one if it helps you.

Homework and Handouts

Please download the homework titled "rounding decimals #3.rtf"  from my website.  Read the directions and neatly complete it.

Also, school pictures, information on Bingo Night, and Pizza Sales information were handed out to students today.

Balboa Park Oct. 13-17

Students have 5 minutes of homework each night from the school at Balboa Park.  

FYI:  We need volunteers for pizza sales!  Please contact Mrs. Dally if you can help out on Thursdays after school.
