Math Test Study Guide

Concepts to know:

Know the definition of a quadrilateral.

Know the properties of all the quadrilaterals.

Know how to compare quadrilaterals using sometimes, always, never statements.
Ex:  A kite is a square.    The answer is sometimes because kites have two sets of congruent adjacent sides.  Therefore, they could be equalateral with right angles which is a square....but they don't have to be.

You try some..... A rectangle is a kite
                            A square is a rhombus

Know how to solve the task exercises we did in class.  If you want more practice with, I can give you some more task cards Monday.

Writing:  Pick a topic you feel strongly about to write an argument paper on Friday.  Then research and take some notes.  Finally, plan out how you will organize your paper.  You will have 45 minutes to write this in class.

Yearbook Covers and homework

5th Grade students have the opportunity to design the yearbook cover.  Entries need to be on 8.5  by 11 on white cardstock.  Entries are due Wednesday Feb. 10. 
Make sure to include:  
Penguin mascots, school name, and 2015-2016.  
Write your name very lightly in pencil on the back of the paper so it will not show through.

Leave 1/4 inch margin around the edge of the paper for publishing so nothing is left off.

Concepts To Know

Know how to break apart or decompose the number one in many different ways.  For example.   1/2 + 1/4 + 1/4 = 1

Know how to find equivalent fractions using an area model.   For example, 1/3 is equal to 2/6 and 3/9.

Know how to add fractions using an area model or linear model (fraction bars). 2/3 +3/4 =

Know how to subtract fractions using an area model or a number line.  
 3/4 - 1/8 =  or   3 1/3 - 1  1/2 =

Be able to solve two step fraction word problems.

Be able to take a group of fractions and put them in categories that are smaller than 1/2, bigger than 1/2, or larger than 1 whole.
