Concepts to know:

whole numbers:

• know how to write them in word form, standard form, and expanded form.

• know how to find the place value in a number and also be able to tell the value of the digit. For example: 576,984 The six is in the thousands place. The value of the 6 is 6,000

• know how to round whole numbers and estimate sums.

decimals:

• know how to fill a customer order by recording a decimal. For example: 12 longs, 3 flats, and 12 cubes. (In this example you would also need to know how to make trades)    Another example  12 cubes, 3 longs, 6 flats

• Know how to build a decimal with bases 10 blocks. For example:  how would you build 1.098

• Know how to put a decimal into word form, expanded form, standard form and as a fraction

• Know how to compare and order decimals (You also need to be able to explain how you know which is bigger and which is smaller)

• know how to add and subtract decimals using base 10 blocks.

• Know how to round decimals and estimate sums.

•Know how to find a decimal between a decimal. For example, is there a decimal between .23 and .24.... Also be able to explain how you know.

Concepts to know:

*Be able to write a number in word form into the billions period...   For example: Write 34,333,567,432  in word form.


*Be able to write whole numbers in expanded form.   For example:  345   is  300 + 40 + 5

*Be able to recognize what place value a number is in.  For example:  456,786.    The 4 is in the hundred thousands place.

*Be able to know what the value of  a place value is.  For example:  356  The value of the 5 is 50.  (There are 5 tens which =50)

*Change word form number into Standard Form.  For example:  Three hundred fifty six would be
356

*Be able to round whole numbers to the billions.  For example,  4,678,832   rounded to the ten thousands place is 4,680,000

*Write about at least three patterns that are in our place value chart.

Know how to measure and create angles using a protractor

Know what right, obtuse and acute angles are

Know how to make diagonals in polygons.

Know that the regions created are triangles which help you find the total number of degrees.

Possible test question for this:  How many diagonals and regions are in a 16-agon?  How many degrees would a 16-agon have.  

Know how to find how many degrees are in the missing angle of a triangle and quadrilateral.

Know how to find the area and perimeter of squares and rectangles.
