Homework

Vocabulary:  Finish Unit 5 by Friday and study for test.

Math: Algebra quiz on Friday.

Math: Also,  finish finding patterns and algebraic equations for the "u" pattern.

Then... Choose one of the following letters:  W, M, E,  F

On graph paper create a zero through 4 year old.  (Make sure it grows the same each year)

Make a T-chart.  Look for a pattern that would help you find any age.  Shade in your constant to help you.  Write your algebraic equation.  If you want change the constant and see if you can find another pattern and algebraic equation.

homework

Vocabulary: Review unit 1-4 to due tomorrow. You have your weekly quiz.

Math: We spent are second day looking at how visual patterns can lead to algebraic equation that have two variables. Students are learning how to understand and identify a constant and a variable. They will be starting to realize that if they define the constant differently that will change the algebraic equation and generalization.

Students will be given a project on this shortly after they have had a few more experiences.

Please ask you students to try and explain what they are doing in the class. This will help them to develop these concepts over time.

Homework and absent students

Please continue to study for the test that is on Tues. Here are some questions to ponder....

8 -  3.8=    about how big do you estimate your answer to be?  Can you show a strategy to find the exact answer? Can you model it with base 10 blocks.

Can you find a decimal between .123 and .124 and explain why?

Can you put 458,998 into word form and expanded form?  What is the value of the 4?

Can you put 3.568 into word form and expanded form? What is number is in the tenths place?

How many tenths in the entire number?

If you were absent today...please download  subtracting decimals and also adding decimals.

Test Next Tues.

Study Guide:

You need to understand place value chart we made in class. How many tens are in one thousand?

You need to know how to write a whole number in expanded form, standard form, and word from.

You need to know what the value of a digit is in a number.

You need to know how to write a decimal in expanded form, word form, and as a fraction.

You need to fill customer orders by recording the decimal like we did in fudge factory. Example: 10 longs, 5 flats

You need to be able to compare and order decimals. If three customers came in and ordered fudge, who ordered the greatest and the least. Could you explain how you know.

Can you find a decimal between a decimal? For example: What is between .2 and .3

Know how to round decimals to the thousandths place.

Know how to add and subtract decimals.

Keep the fudge factory in mind as you study your past homework. I will put more clues on this week. My first clue is to go back to last Friday's blog and answer those questions. That will be a good start!
