Concepts to know:

Fair Shares:   How do you share 5 cookies with 6 people?    How do you share 3 cookies with five people?   Check back in your notebook on this activity.

Fractions on a number line:  putting fractions in order on a number line and explaining what strategy you used.   (I am looking for you to use the 4 strategies we went over in class)   Read over your notes on this.

Equivalent Fractions:  Know how to make equivalent fractions using the fraction squares.


Decomposing a Fraction:   An example would be to take the number one and break it into 1/2 + 1/4 + 1/8 + 1/8   hint:   Use your fraction bars and break one into as many fraction combinations as you can.  We did this in class the week we played fraction games.

Math Homework

Math:  Finish finding all the fraction and acres for section 18 and 19.    Then write your paragraphs explaining the strategies you used.  Use claim, evidence, and warrant in your writing.

Homework for this week

Reading:  Continue to record your reading.  While you are reading, think about how a conflict can lead you to a theme.  Start to work on the back page.

Vocabulary:  Unit 13.   Pages 130-135      Due on Wed. 136-139      Pages due on Fri.      Quiz Friday.

Writing:  Final draft of Tiger Rising due. this Friday    We will begin typing it in class.

Math: Finish the equivalent fraction worksheet.  For extra practice, choose a different fraction and find 4 equivalent fractions using the squares.

Reading:  record your reading every night.

Scholastic News:  Complete back page and underline where you found your answers.  I will pass out Tuesday.

Math:  Finish the 3 versions of cookie sharing at home.  Record your thinking.
