Test Thurs. and Chef's Hot and Cold Cubes Story is on my web site for you to have for the test

As you know from our discussions last week in school we will have a integer test on Thurs. You will need to know the following:

Absolute Value: Distance from zero

Opposites: The opposite of +3 is -3

How to add, subtract and multiple integers.

Make sure to be able to write a story about the hot and cold cubes as well as draw the cauldron. This will help you to solve.

For subtraction you could also use this reasoning if you did not want to draw the cauldron;

-3 - +2= The temp. starts out at negative 3 and since we are taking out (because of subtraction) two hot cubes the temp. will get colder by 2 degrees. Since the temp. was -3 to start, it must now be -5.

Test Thurs.

homework

Please make up 3 multiplication integer problems.  For each one do the following:=

2) Draw a cauldron

3) solve the problem

You could do these if you are having a hard time thinking up problems on your own.

-3 X +5 =

+5 X -4 =

-3 X-7 =

For those of you who were not here I am going to try to post the story on my blog when I get home around 6:30 tonight.

There is a conference schedule for your conference time on my website. I look forward to meeting with you and talking about all the progress your child has made so far this year!

optional problems

Hope you are having a great weekend. We will have a test on integers on Thurs.
Here are some practice problems.

For the following write a story with hot and cold cubes. Make a cauldron and solve. Make sure to read the story first that is on my web page as an attachment.

1) -5 + +3 =

2) +7 + -5=

3) -2 - +4 =

4) +9 - +2 =

homework

For those of you who are out of town or in town, I have attached the hot and cold cube portion of the story that I read to you today, as well as, the part that I will read to you tomorrow. I think it would be a good idea if you have a chance to read it over between now and Monday.

I am thinking that we will have a test/quiz on integers either Thursday or Friday of next week.
I am leaning more toward Thurs. since it is grandparents day on Friday. We can discuss this in class tomorrow.

Vocabulary: Test on Unit 7 tomorrow.

Math: Red group: quiz tomorrow on d. property, finish three problems from class.

Green group: Finish worksheet from class.

Blue group: quiz tomorrow, finish three problems from class.

homework

Vocabulary: Make sure to have unite 7 completed on Friday. Also, be prepared for your test.

Math: Red and Blue group have quiz on Friday. Green group you quiz is Thurs.

Study the Distributive Property:

Practice Problems: Use the d. property to solve these problems.

53 X 67 =

145 X 42 =

Enjoy tomorrow off! Boys and Girls, you are doing a fabulous job!

Homework

Great job this week 5th graders. Thank you for working so hard and being responsible!

Math: We have a quiz on the distributive property on Monday. Here is the practice problem that you requested.

Can you use the distributive property to solve 69 X 72

Draw an open array and then show how you broke up the problem.

Next write the problem mathematically showing how the d. property works.

For example: 23 X45 = (20 + 3) (40 +5) = (20 X 40) +(20 X 5) + (3 X 40) +(3 X 5)=1,035

homework and Parent Conferences

Vocabulary: Please make sure your unit 6 is completed and that you are prepared for Friday's test.

Math: Please turn in your math projects on Friday. We have a quiz Monday on the Distributive Property.

Parents: I have put up an updated conference schedule on my web page. Please check for your time. If you have not filled out a conference time, please print out the updated conference schedule and choose your top three conference times that have not been taken.

homework

Vocabulary: Make sure to do the "fill in the blank exercise" that I assigned in class.

Math: Do page 93. Choose 3 problems from numbers 10- 17. For each one make an array on your graph paper. Then divide it into easier problems like we did in class today. Choose number that are easy for you. That is the whole point of the distributive property.
