Concepts To Know

Know how to break apart or decompose the number one in many different ways.  For example.   1/2 + 1/4 + 1/4 = 1

Know how to find equivalent fractions using an area model.   For example, 1/3 is equal to 2/6 and 3/9.

Know how to add fractions using an area model or linear model (fraction bars). 2/3 +3/4 =

Know how to subtract fractions using an area model or a number line.  
 3/4 - 1/8 =  or   3 1/3 - 1  1/2 =

Be able to solve two step fraction word problems.

Be able to take a group of fractions and put them in categories that are smaller than 1/2, bigger than 1/2, or larger than 1 whole.

Reading:  Read and record your reading.  Complete back page.

Writing:  Your final draft is due Thurs.  Start working on it at home now that it is in the cloud.

Math:  Complete worksheet we started in class.

Scholastic News:  I will hand out tomorrow.  Back page due on Friday.

Math:  Write your initials on each fraction bar.   Teach and play Uncover, version 1 with your parents. 2 games.    Then play one game of Cover Up.

Homework for Tomorrow

Math:  teach your parents the fraction game and play two games with them.

Writing:  Continue to work on your draft tonight.  Finish at least two sections.

Vocab.:  complete unit 8.  Be prepared for the quiz.

Reading:  reading through your notes to write your two sections can count for reading tonight.   Just record it as "Research-Westward Expansion" and the time you spent reading and writing.

Writing:  Bring in an image as your primary source.
               Bring in articles and research to take notes.

Math:  Finish classwork.  Make sure to use a model and brief explanation for each problem.
