Math Test This Friday: Multiplication of Decimals

Concepts to know:

1)  Know how to multiply a decimal and a whole number using a 100 grid.

Example:  6  X  .2  =    

2)  Know how to multiply a decimal times a decimal using a 100 grid and writing a story.

Example:   .6  X .2 =       I have two tenths of a pizza.  I give John six tenths of my share.  How much does John have of the whole pizza?

3)  Understand why when multiplying two decimals the product gets smaller.

4)   Multiplying decimals bigger than 1.

Example:  45.2  X  .89 =

Note:  Be able to use estimation as a strategy to place the decimal point, the box method or counting decimal places (understand why you are counting decimal places if you use that strategy)
