Math Test This Friday

Know the following Concepts for this Friday's Math Test:

Know how to add fractions using an area model.

Know how to subtract two fractions less than one using an area model.

Know how to subtract a mixed number  and a fraction smaller than one using an area model.  You can also use a number line.

Find fractions of a whole.  For example,  What is 2/3 of 21......  (we did this with a set model)

Know that multiplying fractions can be seen as repeated addition.  For example.  2 X 2/5 means two groups of two fifth or   2/5 + 2/5.

Know how to multiply fractions smaller than one using fraction bars or an area model.  

Example:  John has 1/3 of a candy bar he gives his friend 1/4 of his share.  How much of the original candy bar does his friend have?

Know how to multiply a mixed number and a fraction.

Example:  A cooking recipe calls for 1 1/4 cups of sugar.  If you want to make a 1/3 of the recipe, how many cups of sugar do you need?

Know how to multiply two mixed numbers.

Example:  My bathroom is 3 1/2 by 4 1/3 feet.  Exactly how many tiles do I need?

A iPhone measures  1   1/5 by  2 1/2 .....What is the area of the iPhone?

Know how to divide fractions.

Example:  1/2 divided by 1/3............  What question is this asking?     Is the quotient bigger or smaller than one?   Create a model.

You have 4 pints of ice cream.  You want to give each of your guests 1/2 pint.  What equation matches this problem?  Solve and show a model.
