Math Test Wednesday Multiplication of decimals

Study Guide.....

Know what happens to the decimal point when you multiply a number by 10, 100, 10 to any power, 1/10

For example:  2.123  If this number was multiplied by 100 where would you place the decimal point.  What about multiplying it by 1/10?


Know how to multiply a whole number times a decimal and model it using 100 grid.

Example:  4 X .3 =. ?          Refer back to your notes.

Know how to multiply a decimal smaller than 1 times a decimal smaller than one.  Know how to creat a story for this and model it on a 100 grid.

Example:  .4 X .6 = ?    What story matches this equation?  How do you show it on a100 grid?  Refer back to your notes.

Multiplying numbers bigger than 1:

Example:  12.4 X 3.4 =

Know how to estimate product... Also, know how use an array model with whole numbers and also breaking your array into decimals.

Refer to your quiz and notes from last week.

Also, do pages 231 and 232 in your book.  Also, pages 235-236 could be used as additional practice.
