NO Homework Tonight

We took our test today and will not have any homework tonight.  We will be finishing up whole numbers and moving onto decimals.

Sorry!  I got to this late tonight.  However, all students know that there is a test tomorrow and that they need to study for it.

Parents:  There is an attachment about 5th grade pizza sales.  This is one of 5th grades biggest fundraisers.  Please take a look.  It is titled "Pizza Sales".

Back To School Night Schedule Thursday Oct. 2

Welcome to Back To School Night!  Classroom visits will be from 6:00 to 6:20.  We will then walk to the multipurpose room and meet there from 6:20-7:00.

Homework this weekend and Study Guide For Tues Test

Students have a worksheet to do for homework this weekend.  They also have a place value chart that they made in their notebook to help them with some of the questions.

Study Guide For The Test:

Things to know:

Mean, median, mode, range  (know how to calculate and find these in different types of graphs.

Cumulative Frequency table

Stem and leave plot

line plot

What kind of graph would be best for a given table

Histograms

Double Bar Graphs

Line graphs

Know what an interval and scale are.

Know how to graph an ordered pair.  (the game you had to play with your parent)

Advice:

Go over your homework.

Go back to chapter 7 and 8. Read the examples and then practice doing problems...do not just look it over!

No Homework Tonight

Students worked on building a two dimensional place value chart.  We are in the process of finishing and looking at some important patterns and relationships.  Therefore, there is no homework tonight. However, there will be homework this weekend.  Please check my blog on Fri.  

Reminder:  Test on Tues. Chapter 7 and Chapter 8.

People Who Are Out of Town on Contract:  If you are out of town please work on page 3 number 1-4.  Read page 4 and 5 and do all problems on page 5     1-13.    You will make the test up when you return 

Parents:  Just a reminder that P.E. is every Wed. from 1:45-3:15. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for physical exercise that day.

Math Test Next Tues.

The homework tonight is to make sure that lasts nights homework is done to the best of your ability.  All graphs should be in color and your paper should be neat and organized.

Their will be a math test next Tues.  Please read my entry for September 23 to get more details.

Homework and Parent Info

The homework tonight is for students to do page 132 numbers 10-12.  Students are to choose the best graph from each table and then create the graph.  They should have three neatly done graphs when the homework is complete.

IF you are a student who was absent or out of town, please download the classwork that is titled math graphing from my website.

Parents:  The fundraiser for Innisbrook starts tomorrow and ends October 8.   This are going home tomorrow (Wed. September 24).

Testing:  Their will be a math test next Tues. in math class.  The test will be on chapters 7 and 8.  Students should practice doing some of the homework problems again as well as looking through chapters 7 and 8.

Today students learned how to read and create Histograms. Their homework is to do page 129 numbers 3 and 4. Students make Histograms for #3. Also, they are to do page 129 #5-9 which is titled Mixed Review and Test Prep.

Students did not meet for math today, but were at dance instead. Students are to continue to play one or two games with you tonight. The graphing game is to help them understand and practice graphing coordinates/ ordered pairs. I have taught them to start at the origin and go over....then up to find the point.

Students were taught a math graphing game.  They are to play one game against their parents tonight and tomorrow night.  They are to have their piece of graph paper signed and brought back on Friday.

Please download the homework off of my homepage.  It is titled "double-bar graph".  Please use graph paper to create your graph.  Students were able to take a piece of graph paper home today if they needed to do so.  I also showed the class how they could use the internet to download graph paper.  Go to yahoo and type in free graph paper!

Also,  a few students need to finish up with the art lesson which was on formal and informal balance.  

Parents....  picture day is this Friday.    Thank you for all you help and support.  The supplies you have brought in have been appreciated and we are using everyday!

Today make sure to go to my blog site and answer the survey question regarding how much time you spend doing chores or cleaning your room.

Parents, I also sent home a permission slip for you to sign that will allow your child to go onto the fields next to school.  Mrs. Bailey will use the field for physical education.  Please return this tomorrow.  Thanks.

Homework and Forms

Today students were assigned page 107 numbers 5 through 9 and page 112 numbers 1 through 3, 7 through 9, and number 13.  Students also have their "All About Me" posters due tomorrow.

Parents be on the look out for papers that went home tonight for you to sign regarding the Balboa Park Program.  There is a transportation and medical form for you to sign and have students bring back tomorrow.  Thanks for your help with this.  Also, there is a AFP budget attachment on my home page for you to look at when you have a moment.

I am enjoying getting to know each and every one of the fifth grade students.  Parents, please stop by and introduce yourself to me if you have not done so already.  I would like to meet you.

Homework From the Web Page

The homework for tonight is an attachment that is on my website.  The title of it is "The Mean of three numbers is...".   Students were shown how to access their homework from the website.  

Also, students who did not finish their "Flip Books" in class today need to finish them at home and turn them in tomorrow morning.

Last, but not least Gloria Tran had some information regarding our parking lot.  You can download that document from my homepage as well.  The title is "parking lot".

Homework and Important Notice

The homework for tonight is page 103  numbers 5 through 7 and 20 through 24.  WE worked on the mean or average.  Students should know that average means you are "evening out"the numbers.

It was brought to my attention that to carry home books can be very heavy!  I want everyone to know that for Social Studies parents can check out a CD for the Reflections book so that students 

do not have to ever carry this book home.  The CD can be kept at home and returned at the end of the year.  The only big book that will go home will be the math book.  I hope that this is good solution!  

Parent Volunteers and Homework

Todays homework is to do page 100 numbers 25 and 26.  Also, students are to do link up to reading which is on page 101.  If students are having trouble making the table, please have them look at the example on page 98.

Also,  any parents who would like to volunteer for positions such as room parent, art parent , AFP Rep, etc. please come see me after school.

Friday September 5, 2008

For homework this weekend students who did not finish the "Dreamhouse" in class need to finish it for homework over the weekend.  I have had a great week meeting all the students and am excited for the great year ahead of us! 

Just a Reminder

Parents make sure to have students return handouts from the first week of school if you have not done so already.  Students were sent home with a packet for after school programs if they wished to participate in any.  No new homework today.

There are two assignments I handed out today.  One is for the parents and one is for the students.

The students are to create a page of information about them.  They can use pictures to talk about their hobbies, favorite foods, and so on.  This assignment is due Friday, September 12, 2008.

The parent assignment is to write a letter about your child.  Make sure to keep it one or two pages!  Students should bring this assignment home to you. It would be great to receive this from you in the next couple of weeks.

In the future I will attach a copy of these pages on my website so they can be downloaded on your home computer.
